Department of Environmental Health
GENERAL INFORMATION
The
Environmental Health Department is one of the first Departments
established in the institution. The Department is saddled with the
training of qualitative Environmental Health Officers/professionals
who will be able to tackle the emerging challenges in the field of
Environmental Health and Sanitation. The first batch of
Environmental Health Officers-in-training (then known as public health
inspectors-
in-training) were admitted in 1976 and qualified in 1979 with the
royal society of Health (London) Professional Diploma (now replaced by
the
West African Examination Board Professional Diploma). The
R.S.H/WAHEB Diploma is a higher professional Diploma in Health
Technology field.
The department currently has the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) accreditation to train and award Higher National Diploma (HND) and National Diploma (ND) in Environmental Health Technology programmes besides the professional certificates. The holders of the department's HND are eligible for N.Y.S.C scheme. The department also runs the proficiency certificate and Technician Diploma in Environmental Health. The Department has well experienced and committed lecturers, instructors and technologists dedicated to the programmes. Available facilities for training and services include technical studios, natural science laboratories, environmental monitoring laboratories, entomology and pest control laboratory, e-library etc. Core competency areas for the graduates include: pest management services, pollution abatement services, environmental monitoring (technical and scientific) services, food safety services, occupational/industrial health and safety services, port/international health services, technical wastes (solid, liquid gaseous) management services, enforcement/inspection services,etc.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
REQUIREMETNS FOR ND/HND ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH TECHNOLOGY PROGRAMME
The
minimum entry requirement into National Diploma/Higher National Diploma
in Environmental Health Programme is five (5) O'level credit passes
in the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE), National
Examination Commission (NECO) or General Certificate of Education (GCE)
or
their equivalent to include: English Language, Mathematics, Physics,
Biology or Health Science and Chemistry at not more than two (2)
sittings.
Duration for the programme is two years for ND and two (2) years for
HND.
Certificate obtained: National Diploma (ND) Environmental Health Technology and Higher National Diploma Environmental Health Technology.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH TECHNICIAN DIPLOMA PROGRAMME
The
minimum entry requirement into Environmental Health Technician Diploma
programme is five (5) O'level passes in the Senior Secondary
Certificate Examination (SSCE), National Examination Commission
(NECO) or General Certificate of Education (GCE) or their equivalent,
three
of which must be at credit level and to include: English Language,
Biology or Health Science and any of Chemistry, Physics, Economics,
Geography,
Agricultural Science and Commerce, at not more than two (2)
sittings. A pass in mathematics will be an added advantage. Duration of
the programmes
is three (3) years.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH ASSISTANTS PROGRAMME
The
minimum entry requirement into Environmental Health Assistants
programme is four (4) O'level passes in the Senior Secondary Certificate
Examination
(SSCE), National Examination Commission (NECO) or General
Certificate of Education (GCE), Grade II or NABTEC in one science
subject (Chemistry, Biology,
Health Science, Nutrition, Physics, General Science or Integrated
Science and any other three subjects. A pass in English Language will be
an added
advantage. Duration for the programme is two (2) years.

Department of Computer Science
GENERAL INFORMATION
In
line with the expansion drive of the College, the Academic Board of the
College approved the introduction of the
Nation Diploma in Computer Science in the 2015/2016 academic
session. The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) is expected
to visit the Department to carry out resource inspection later in 2017
or early 2018. The Department will after the resource inspection, admit
its first batch of students. The Department also handles ICT related
issues in the college which affords students of the department a rare
opportunity of practising what they are thought in class.
This programme is designed to produce computer personnel capable of applying the use of computer in most areas of data analysis.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
The entry requirements into National Diploma Computer Science programme are as follows:-
a) Four credit level passes in GCE "O" level or Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) at not more than two sittings. The four subjects must include mathematics, Physics, English language and any other subject.
b) Four credit passes in an NBTE recognized preliminary National Diploma course offered in a Polytechnic or similar post secondary technical institution. The credit passes must include Mathematics, Physics, English Language and any other subject.
c) A pass in Computer Foundation Examination (CFE) of Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN). The student must be prima fascia qualified as in (a) above.
Admission into the National Diploma in Computer Science programme is through JAMB. The required JAMB subjects are English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

JOB PROSPECTS
Given
the pervasive nature of computing, graduates of the National Diploma in
Computer Science programme can be employed in
almost all spheres of endeavour including banks, oil companies,
software and IT firms, telecom companies, media and entertainment firms,
federal and state civil/public service, hospitals, schools, etc.
This is apart from becoming
entrepreneurs or self-employed. They can also further their
education if they chose to do so as their qualification
affords them direct entry admission into the University or Higher
National Diploma programme in Computer Science.
Department of Health Information Management
GENERAL INFORMATION
VISION STATEMENT
To
build a Health Information Management Department that will be capable
of providing professional training in Health Information Management.
MISSION STATEMENT
To train qualified / professional Health Information Managers for the provision of Health Information Management services
for effective health care delivery system at the local, state and National levels.
PROGRAMMES
The
department offers three (3) programmes leading to the award of
professional diploma (Diploma), National Diploma (ND) and Higher
National Diploma in health information management (HND):
1. PROFESSIONAL DIPLOMA IN HEALTH INFORMATION MANAGEMENT
This is a three (3) year terminal professional Diploma programme designed to provide the graduates with the knowledge and skills to assist in planning, collating, organizing, disseminating, monitoring and managing vital information required for the health care system.
ENTRY REQUIREMENT: Applicants with a minimum of five (5) credits at not more than two sittings at SSCE, WASC or its equivalent may be considered. The subjects must include; Mathematics, English Language, Biology or Health Science, Physics or Chemistry and any other subject.
PROGRAMME STRUCTURE
The programme is a three (3) year terminal programme leading to the award of Diploma in Health Information Management by the Board.
2. NATIONAL DIPLOMA IN HEALTH INFORMATION MANAGEMENT
This programme is similar to the professional Diploma programme in content, goal and objective. But the duration of this programme differs from that of professional Diploma.
ENTRY REQUIREMENT: Admission through JAMB only. Applicants MUST possess Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) scores with a minimum of 160 points in addition to the ordinary level requirements. The subjects must include; Mathematics, English Language, Biology or Health Science, Physics or Chemistry and any other subject.
PROGRAMME STRUCTURE
The programme is a two (2) year terminal academic programme followed by a one year of Industrial Attachment carried out in an accredited health facility.
3. HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA IN HEALTH INFORMATION MANAGEMENT
This programme is designed to produce Technologists equipped with the knowledge and skill to plan, collate, organize, disseminate, monitor and manage health information at all levels of the Health care system.
PROGRAMME STRUCTURE: The certificate awarded at the end of the programme is HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA.
ENTRY REQUIREMENT: applicants with the following qualifications may be considered for admission. In addition to the specific entry requirements, for the National Diploma in Health Information Management above, the candidate MUST possess:
a). National Diploma Certificate in Health Information Management with a minimum of lower credit.
b). Professional Diploma / Technician Certificate in Health Information Management by HRORBN with a minimum of lower credit.
c). Evidence of completion of one year relevant industrial work experience in an accredited health facility approved by the Board.
d). Candidates with a pass (GPA 2.00 – 2.49) at the National Diploma(ND) level with two (2) or more years post – ND cognate work experience may be considered for admission into the HND program.
NOTE: candidates with National certificate and a pass / merit can ONLY be considered for ND 2 before progressing to HND.
